Because of the hormones of labor, the laboring person can go from feeling chilled to sweating very quickly. Because of this, I recommend keeping the labor room on the cool side and using clothing to keep comfortable. It is quicker to take off socks and sweaters to cool down than to adjust the thermostat and wait for the room temp to change.
You can wear any sweater you have or love, but having something special for the occasion can be meaningful. I recommend a light-weight robe or extra layer, over something heavy.
